An online calendar service has been launched by the Internet search engine Google.

The new facility allows people to record appointments, set reminders as well as share their agendas and future plans with other web users.

It includes a number of innovative features aimed to better organise the Internet user's social life and possible business commitments.

The feature QuickAdd lets users enter events or appointments easily and quickly without having to type out complicated forms.

Just quickly typing out a name, occasion and date will trigger the feature to enter a note in the calendar.

The Google calendar can also search emails on Gmail or GoogleMail accounts, looking for events that can then be automatically put in the diary.

The advanced technology is designed to recognise even the most simple commands such as 'leave office at 5pm' or 'dinner at 7'.

It is also compatible with Microsoft Outlook and some mobile phone calendars.
