Weymouth and Portland Borough Council is launching a new online service to make its residents aware of hygiene standards at food establishments in the area.
Beginning from tomorrow (April 29th), the public will be able to view the council's food hygiene grades for the borough's restaurants, pubs, cafes and hotels, based on the last inspection report of them.
The grades are: gold, silver, bronze and not satisfactory.
This new section of the council's website will also say when the next inspection is due to take place.
The inclusion of this information is as a result of public enquiries, under the Freedom of Information Act, to know specific food hygiene ratings for places where food is served.
Tony Beeson, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council's environmental health and property services manager, said: "This will be a valuable resource for Weymouth and Portland's residents and visitors alike, ensuring that the public is better informed when planning a meal out.
"It will also encourage food business operators to seek higher standards of food hygiene. Plans to expand the service to include full reports and maps will make this service the most comprehensive in the country."
