A large-scale local authority e-government event has begun in London aimed at encouraging the adoption of e-services.
Over 1,000 local authority managers are attending the event in the capital between April 5th and 6th.
It aims to provide people working in local authorities with practical advice on implementing and encouraging use of e-government facilities.
"Ultimately, it's about helping local authorities in building and delivering improved public services," commented councillor Paul Bettison, leader of Bracknell Forest Borough Council.
The two-day event will see over 140 conference sessions and feature over 150 speakers.
There will also be over 100 exhibitors, including major technology vendors and specialist service providers.
The implementation of e-services in local governments has enjoyed relative success, with over 97 per cent of English local authority services being recognised as e-enabled by the beginning of 2006.
It is hoped that if these services can be successfully delivered to residents, then local councils are set to achieve efficiency gains of around £1.9 billion by the end of 2005/06.
