An international conference was held in London last week to improve understanding on how to tackle Internet related crime.
The 2nd International Conference on Global E-Security, first held last year, was staged at the University of London and featured a variety of speakers from public sector bodies and specialist security firms.
One of the speakers was Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner Tarique Ghaffur. He said the force was looking more intensely for information to discover and stop the operations of criminal networks using the Internet to steal money, reports the Web User website.
Mr Ghaffur stated that this problem is affecting a larger number of the general public in the UK.
"It's definitely not just banks and insurance companies being ripped off. Private individuals are being conned out of thousands of hard-earned pounds every single day," he said.
Also at the conference, delegates were able to debate a number of issues such as the measures governments need to take to protect the security of information on the Internet and how to reduce the implications of cyber-crime in large corporations and individuals.
