Tameside council is planning to continue making changes to its online benefit system in order to increase efficiency and access.

The council is to adopt a new accessibility system to help aid revenue collection. The move follows on from the recent implementation of similar social care products that provide a co-ordinated system for local social services.

It is anticipated that the new system will free up staff-time as well as reducing costs within the department and improving access for local residents.

Councillor Margaret Oldham, Tameside's e-envoy, explained that the new systems "have helped Tameside to improve citizen access, reduce costs, free-up staff time and meet vital internal and national e-service targets".

She added that the installation of the system "demonstrates our continued commitment toward developing and improving the e-services we offer to our citizens".

Mike Kingswood, behind the new system, said he was "delighted to continue to work closely with Tameside in delivering services that are more focussed on customer needs".
