The number of broadband connections in the UK has risen again in the first quarter of 2006, according to the latest figures from the Internet Service Providers.
Going online through a broadband connection formed 69.2 per cent of all Internet connections in the period, meaning that dial-up connections fell to 30.8 per cent.
The index of all connections improved to 107.3, from the base mark of 100 set in March 2005 with broadband increasing to 151.1 and dial-up decreasing to 65.
Therefore, the broadband connection index went up from December 2005 by 10.2 per cent and the annual increase was 51.1 per cent.
Changes were made to the dial-up settings in the survey, with the free access, billing and mixed access categories being put together into one metered dial-up category.
In the first quarter of 2006, the percentage of active subscriptions using metered dial-up access was 21.7 per cent and the figure for those paying a fixed rate for unmetered dial-up access was 9.1 per cent, both lower than a year before.
