Residents in the West Lancashire area will be able to quickly and simply find out whether they live in an area of historical importance by visiting a new website section.

The West Lancashire District Council's website has been expanded to include a sophisticated interactive map of all the district's 28 conservation areas.

These areas have been deemed places of special architectural and historic interest and among the features available, residents are able to see the current boundaries and many different aerial views.

In addition, residents who discover that they live in one of these areas can then find out on the council's website if it is running a grant scheme and if they are eligible for funding in order to refurbish or restore any traditional features back into their home.

Steve Byron, the council's interim executive manager for regeneration and planning, said: "A lot of people may not even realise that they are living within an area of great historical interest and may not know that we actually have 28 conservation areas.

"In today's world of technology, it is a quick, easy and effective way of being able to discover some interesting facts about our district and I hope that residents use this popular facility."
