Improvements to Hounslow Council's website have seen its ranking improve to second in the UK, in the April 2006 UK Local Authority website league tables compiled by SiteMorse.
The website was also commended in the report for being error free, along with 17 other local authority websites.
This ranking shows that further progress has been made on it even though earlier this year the council achieved the largest ever rise in the table, climbing 413 places to number 15.
Hounslow Council's web manager Zoe Laycock said that "number two in the UK and highest ranked London borough is a tremendous achievement for our web team and marks the latest success in our rapid website improvement programme".
SiteMorse carries out a range of tests to measure the effectiveness and easiness of use of local government websites. Among the issues examined are accessibility to all groups of people, web page download speeds and any technical errors on each web page.
