The Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) website will be significantly enhanced so that its users will have better access to the data.

Improvement work, to be carried out by Northgate Information Solutions under its contract with The Information Centre of the NHS, will mean that the website will have a wide range of interactive content, giving users more efficient and convenient access to the HES data.

These changes will give improved feedback to data providers in order to have a better monitoring of its quality and people's views submitted to the website will be looked at in more detail so that content will be more tailored to their needs.

The HES website currently provides the public with information on a number of topics such as operations and diagnoses, that take place in NHS hospitals and as part of the enhancement it will also have links to external websites including the Office for National Statistics' deaths registrations.
