A project has been launched to get a greater number of older people in London to use computers and the Internet and it has the backing of London's mayor Ken Livingstone.
Not-for-profit computer recycling company Maxitech is calling on the capital's businesses to donate them computers that they no longer need.
The firm will safely clear the computers of their data and refurbish them do that they can be re-used. They will be sent to Age Concern centres, which will provide computer training and Internet access.
In addition, the charity will give some of the computers to older people living in their own homes who currently do not have one.
Mr Livingstone is writing to London firms to encourage them to donate their computer equipment for this project and he believes this scheme will be a great success.
He said: "Access to a computer - and in particular the Internet - is an increasingly valuable part of every day life and without it many people will find themselves deprived of many opportunities that others take for granted.
"This is an important project which I strongly support and a fantastic way to enhance the lives of many of London's older citizens."
