Wiltshire County Council has revamped its IT infrastructure in a bid to reduce costs and boost efficiency for users.

The new deal, which officials hope will improve digital accessibility to information for all of the council's service users, is to provide installation and maintenance for all hardware.

In addition, the new arrangement will plan and deliver a wide range of IT related projects, designed to help the organisation conduct business.

An example cited is the technology's ability to develop more mobile and flexible working to enable better contact between service users and council staff.

Jane Scott, Leader of Wiltshire County Council, said: "We rely on our computer systems to help us deliver services to local people as quickly and efficiently as possible.

"To make sure we can continue to do this we need to have well maintained systems and comprehensive support."

Meanwhile, Newcastle City Council recently stated that an upgrade of its outdated IT systems could potentially save £37 million of tax-payers' money.
