The number of 3.5G mobile broadband users is to increase from 2.5 million users to 300 million users by 2011, according to a new report from Informa Telecoms and Media.
According to the market research provider, an increasing range of handsets will enable 3.5G Internet connection to enjoy greater market penetration.
Malik Saadi, principle analyst at Informa Telecoms and Media, told Telecoms Paper: "A lack of compelling devices and content led to delayed launches and slow take-up of WCDMA and EV-DO services, and early HSDPA and EV-DO Revision A services are expected to suffer from the very same problems."
The study, entitled Future Mobile Broadband: HSPA, EV-DO, WiMax and LTE, states that handsets will improve from 2008 and from 2011 85 per cent of 3.5G devices will take the handset form, rather than the notebook and PC card alternatives.
Informa supplies market research for academic, commercial and scientific fields.
It has 150 offices in more than 40 countries and employs approximately 7,000 people.
