UK residents are using the Internet to generate cash, according to a study.
Around 54 per cent of UK residents are using online sales websites to make extra funds, research from Orange broadband shows.
A total of £8.5 billion has been created by Brits over the last year, at an average of £341 per person.
Furthermore, 12 per cent of people over the age of 30 claim to have made in excess of £500 by selling online.
Web users are also taking advantage of other services available online, with a third of 26 to 30-year-olds spending 11 or more evenings a month on the Internet, rather than socialising with friends.
Also, the figures show that around two-thirds of users in this age group log on to social networking websites.
Auction and sales websites, such as eBay, have risen in popularity over the last few years, with items ranging from DVDs to festival tickets available online.
