The Commission for Social Care Inspection's (CSCI) website won the New Statesman new media award for accessibility because the commission listened to its users, according to one of its directors.
Judith Thomas, director of communications, user and public involvement with the CSCI, said that it was successful because it "adapted" its systems to meet its users needs.
"It is great that the effort by the webteam that went in to designing and launching a website that is accessible to all has been recognised by receiving a national award," she added.
The award itself was presented earlier this week by David Miliband, the secretary of state for the environment, farming and rural affairs.
The CSCI states that its website offers a range of accessibility and usability features. These include easy-to-read pages with sound, the plain English Internet Crystal Mark.
In addition, the commission's website has also been awarded an AA standard by the World Wide Web Consortium.
