Internet accessibility is increasingly allowing workers to base themselves overseas, according to a new report from Thomson Future Forum.
The recent study suggesting that the Internet, along with cheaper flights, flexible working hours and email, will allow people to work from destinations such as Barcelona, Tallinn and Marakech.
Commenting on the study, Dr Frank Shaw, director general for the Centre of Future Studies, said that working from home will become increasingly popular over the next ten years as economic growth is centred around more creative industries.
"Location is going to be increasingly less relevant," he told the BBC, with the report showing that destinations such as Palma, Faro and Verona all possible commuter belt destinations."
The report was written by a range of experts in the fields of technology, demographics and travel.
The thinktank Centre for Future Studies aims to explore the "geography of our time". It states that its objective is to "ensure our clients arrive at the future first and are not surprised by it".
