The government is set to implement a new website for student loan applications in a bid to improve efficiency and customer service.
"Clearer information, faster decisions, timely payments and accurate repayments" are the key areas which have been focussed on, the government states.
Students will now be able to use the Internet to apply for student loans and grants at the same time they are applying for a university place.
The new service also offers undergraduates a higher level of digital accessibility to "high-quality" information, advice and guidance, including an online financial calculator for students.
Also, the speed of decisions and payments will be increased due to an enhanced online service, which has been designed around students and parents.
The service evaluate the potential student's individual profile, working out the steps they need to take, which replaces the previous system in which they would have to work through lengthy forms and guidance notes.
Due to tuition fees and rising costs, some students may borrow as much as £12,000 for three years of study.
