A new recruitment website designed to find employees with disabilities has been hailed as a "critical" breakthrough.

Walgreens, the largest pharmacy chain in the US has launched the new website, which is designed to have improved digital accessibility for those with sensory, physical and cognitive disabilities.

The Internet recruitment tool provides information to help potential employees understand what would be involved in the role, incorporating audio messages, photos, video and a large-print text option to depict working life.

Furthermore, the website is designed to be accessible to blind and low vision individuals who use screen readers, while prospective employees can take a self-quiz to get an idea of the tasks involved.

Mike Paciello, author of Web Accessibility for People with Disabilities, claims that the impact of the website is "immeasurable".

"It will be embraced by the disability community as a critical tool in the employment process," he added.

Larry Kraemer, human resources manager for the distribution center, claims that the disabled workforce is not afforded enough opportunity.

"This is a chance to change that," he states.
