The government's Planning Portal website has won an award for providing the public and businesses with secure advice and information online.
Designed as a one-stop shop for all aspects of the planning system in England and Wales, the Planning Portal scooped the Central Government Website award.
Praised for its usability and originality, the website allows government, business and public service access to information, advice and a forum for discussion.
Furthermore, the website offers a newsletter, to which around 20,000 professionals currently subscribe, eGov monitor reports.
Chris Kendall, director of the Planning Portal, said: "This award reflects the hard work and dedication of all of us here at the Planning Portal.
"We have seen the Portal grow impressively over the past 12 months and we have strived to add as many helpful features to the site to further benefit our users."
Chris Kendall recently predicted that electronic planning applications will save £10 million this year and £20 million in 2007, while the estimated saving to applicants is £120, Computing reports.
