The government is launching a new DirectGov website, which officials hope will become a one-stop shop for services.

My Council, the new website, aims to put taxpayers "in charge of when where and how" they access services, by providing a wide range of online options for users.

The range of services which residents can access on the website include childcare, school holiday schemes, parking ticket and library books, in addition to information on topics such as fly tipping and graffiti.

With an interface in which users are able to type in their postcode and gain access to the services in their area, officials believe that the website will simplify the process for many visitors.

The service was developed by Lancaster City Council in conjunction with national entities, bringing together a wide range of services and information.

Recent alterations to Directgov's usability have been conducted after public consultation, introducing new features such as more shortcuts and improved search results which the public requested.
