High Peak Borough Council's website has improved its accessibility, aiming to help residents gain access to services and information.

The website has recently been rated as the fourth-best local authority online service, praised for its high levels of web accessibility.

Designed in accordance with national standards for local government websites, the service complies with the legislation outlined in the Disability Discrimination Act, eGovmonitor reports.

The aim of the site is to increase emphasis on services available in the area and provide accurate, timely and high-quality information to residents.

Councillor David Lomax, leader of High Peak Borough Council, commented: "We aim to maintain our website so that it is as easy as possible for members of the community to access.

"There is still work to be done however because we want to expand on this success and improve the site further."

The website is almost entirely compliant with the Web Accessibility Initiative's Triple A guidelines and has been coded to provide support for screen readers, screen magnifiers and browsers.
