UK residents are taking advantage of wireless Internet access to increase their freedom, according to new research by AOL.
More than one third of Britons now have wireless access, with 63 per cent stating that the freedom of the technology was the driving factor.
AOL's director of broadband, Jemma Dunn, remarked: "Wireless not only stops the cable clutter, but frees you to get your email and catch up on the latest content from wherever you want, in or out of the home."
Of the 2,000 surveyed, half claimed that the garden was their ideal place to surf the net, while the bedroom was the most popular location for 18 to 24-year-olds.
Ms Dunn added: "As British summers get warmer and longer, it is no surprise that we all want to be freed from the phone point to be in the garden enjoying the sunshine and the Web at the same time."
The AOL figures also showed that three quarters of wireless users have adopted the technology in the last year, suggesting that more Britons are looking to take advantage of the remote accessibility it offers.
