The Welsh Assembly Government is planning to use a new website to help tackle smoking in the country.

Officials intend to introduce a full ban on the habit in public places in 2007, with the online service created to help businesses fully aware of their responsibilities and options, to aid the transition.

Case studies will be available on the website, to provide tips and information to business owners who may need help implementing the ban.

Dr Brian Gibbons, health minister, said, "The Welsh Assembly Government was one of the first democratic institutions in the world to declare its intention to impose a nationwide smoking ban in enclosed public places and the launch of the consultation and website today is another big step forward in delivering on our promises."

Famous Welsh names, such as Shirley Bassey, Sian Lloyd and Gabby Logan will be backing the campaign, while the Internet service allows businesses and professional to register their support.
