Internet radio could be a great benefit to the farming community, the Department for Food and Rural Affairs believes.

Farmers can use the website to keep up to date with news which could affect their farms, while farming communities can also use it to share information.

In the past year, the site has attracted more than one million hits, which officials believe is testament to its success, PublicTechnology.net reports.

Trevor Bailey, one of the service's creators, remarked: "We wanted to find a way of helping farming families keep in touch with developments and other people's experiences in agriculture."

Farm Radio is partly funded by the LEADER+ scheme, a European Union initiative designed to help rural communities improve their prosperity and quality of life.

The service is available is a variety of ways, whether live on the website or through an RSS feed, while it is also compatible with iTunes and accessible as a podcast.
