A development company hopes that it can benefit the people of Cornwall by ensuring that everyone has broadband access.

Cornwall Enterprise believes that broadband access plays "a vital role" in making the region more "prosperous and inclusive", due to geographical difficulties of the area.

The group's campaign, actnow, also aims to create an infrastructure in which the region is a desirable location for businesses to move.

Furthermore, Cornwall Enterprise believes that access to the Internet can also benefit individuals and families, due to the role it can play in education and lifestyle.

Lizzie Beesley, BT regional director for the south west, commented: "ICT is playing a vital role in making the westcountry a more prosperous and inclusive community by helping to overcome many of the problems posed by its relatively peripheral location and distance from major centres."

She adds that while progress has been made, more can be done in the area to ensure broadband take-up.

Cornwall Enterprise is Cornwall County Council's economic development service.
