The increasing proliferation of high-speed broadband Internet access in Scotland will be beneficial to the country's economy, a new report has found.
Next Generation Broadband in Scotland, published by the Scottish Executive, found that almost 100 per cent of Scotland now has first generation broadband access - meaning that it is "one of the most extensive broadband markets in the world".
Additionally, the report estimated that the annual gross value added revenue of the country's market sector will be £3.4 billion higher in 2005 thanks to high-speed Internet access.
"There is a growing body of evidence in the economic literature that information and communication technology ... has very significant positive impacts on productivity and economic output," stated the document.
Late last year, a Scottish Executive report into the future of broadband in the country determined that it would be a "key enabler of e-business" in the future.
