Technology giant Intel has predicted that wireless Internet access will continue to become more widespread.

New advances in wireless broadband technologies, falling costs of implementation and increasingly innovative and varied business models will all spur growth in this medium, according to the company.

Abdul Rahman Jarrar, the company's regional manager of governmental affairs, META, foresees "exceptional growth" in WiMAX and WiFi technology, due to the success achieved by 3G.

"Global trends looks very positive … these new trends are changing the industry landscape," remarked Mr Jarrar.

Additionally, Intel notes that the use of wireless Internet networks will continue to expand in both established and emerging markets.

These views echo those of Nokia chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, who recently claimed that convergent, wireless devices such as mobile phones will become the dominant means of Internet access in many areas of the world where PCs have yet to become commonplace.
