The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is to launch a new website in a bid to help individuals keep track of rising prices.
An online calculator will be available, aiming to enable UK residents to work out whether their personal rate of inflation is higher than national figures, and to explain inflation to users.
Additionally, the department will provide information on methods of analysing and interpreting government data.
Karen Dunnell, a national statistician, said that the service would help people to understand why national inflation statistics may not reflect the price rises they experience.
"Every household is different and the way inflation affects them depends on how they spend their money," she remarked.
The ONS announced in December 2006 that November's annual consumer price index inflation was the highest on record at 2.7 per cent, rising from the 2.4 per cent observed in the previous month.
