The accessibility of roadwork information online is to be improved as more than thirty councils have made their data available in one place.

Along with the Highways Agency and utility companies, the councils have entered details of roadworks in their local area onto a government website, increasing the amount of accessibility Internet users have to such information.

In addition to roadwork data, the website, designed to conform to the latest accessibility guidelines, is intended to promote information relating to delays and incidents on motorways and trunk roads via an interactive map.

One of the councils involved in the data accessibility initiative is Knowsley Council.

Councillor Graham Morgan, cabinet member for regeneration and neighbourhoods, told Knowsley Online that the "valuable online resource" would enable the public "to see where roadworks will be and help people plan their journeys with the least disruption".

He added that the project would help councils and transport authorities to manage roadworks and reduce congestion.

Since its inception, the website has won various awards for its contribution to e-government .

The website was developed in compliance with priorities one and two of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
