A symposium held later this month by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) will discuss the implementation of web standards in e-government.
Taking place in Gijon, Spain, representatives from the W3C and European governments will discuss accessibility, challenges faced by citizens, government requirements and a number of other topics.
The meeting's outcomes may impact upon the W3C's future support for e-government and improvements in web standards, the body notes.
Ralph Swick, acting technology and society domain lead at W3C, comments: "Web standards created at W3C currently enjoy broad use in e-government … we hope that participants at the symposium provide us with critical information to help us develop new technologies that meet citizens' needs and goals."
Earlier this year, a W3C workshop found that the mobile web may assist in closing the digital divide in developing countries where mobile phones are the main access platform.
