Small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could be set to benefit from a new initiative in Wiltshire.

The scheme, which aims to instruct businesses on how best to improve their online presence and make the most of emerging Internet technologies, will be supported by £398,000 from local agencies.

More than £170,000 has been provided by the South West of England Regional Development Agency (RDA), to provide support for SMEs with less than 250 employees.

Steve Richards, Head of Operations for Wiltshire and Swindon at the South West RDA, said: "The increasing up-take of e-technologies will help to drive forward the Wiltshire economy and support its sustainable growth in the future."

He added that the Internet has been the driving force behind change in the last ten years, both for organisations and individuals accessing services.

Wiltshire residents can access a number of online government services, including an employment site and a complaints logging system.
