UK shoppers are expected to spend a record-breaking £14 billion on their Christmas shopping online in 2007, making the UK Europe's most Internet-obsessed consumers. Internet shoppers across Western Europe will spend €51 billion (£35 billion). This is an increase of 58% on last year and accounting for about 39% of total annual online sales, according to research house Forrester.

Almost 60% of Europe's Internet users will shop online this year. Britain is the largest online retail market with more than 27 million people expected to shop over the Internet this Christmas. Although, 33 million Germans are expected to shop online, their spending is forecast to be less in the run-up to Christmas at €12 billion. French consumers are the third biggest shoppers with a projected €6.5 billion spend while the Italians and Dutch lag behind with a €2.1 billion and €1.9 billion predicted spend.
