40% of the UK feels more vulnerable to cyber crime than they do to burglary, assault or robbery.
Research from security firm AVG, creators of the widely used free AVG Anti-Virus application, found that one in three of the people it surveyed had been the victims of online crime. Crimes suffered by victims included credit card fraud and unauthorised bank transfers.
While the risks of theft over the Internet are real it is important to keep it in perspective,
said Larry Bridwell, global security strategist at AVG.
There are a number of things you can do to cut down the risks.
90% of those surveyed said they had some kind of threat protection installed on their PCs, but a third feared that the measures they had in place weren't enough, according to AVG.
