Devon County Council’s Disability Information Service (DIS) has launched a new website.  The Service was previously entirely telephone based.

People with disabilities, their families and carers can now log onto www.devon.gov.uk/dis to find advice and information on employment, benefits, transport, equipment, accommodation and leisure.

The DIS is an important arm of the Council's My Devon' customer service which is consistently rated in the UK's top ten of central and local government websites.  The telephone service reported calls in excess of 3,200 in its first year, with calls tripling in the last six months.  The move online was made after research indicated that people wanted to be able to get information about the Council's services from their website.

Councillor Des Hannon, the council's executive member for customer services, said:

This new service will enable even more people to have access to trustworthy advice and information about all aspects of disability.
