Tesco, the supermarket giant, is to begin selling clothes online, building on its existing successful Internet store and demonstrating that online retail is clearly the way forward.
After enjoying blistering sales at Tesco.com over the 2006 Christmas period Tesco has been planning the move online.
Some 300 lines of women's clothing will be sold, such as its budget Florence & Fred and Cherokee ranges, via the Tesco Direct website, which also sells groceries.
Tesco's head of Marketing for clothing, Sean Murray commented:
Not all our customers have access to our clothing ranges in their local stores and many of them have told us how much they would like to be able to buy Tesco clothing online.
