A large number of cultural bodies in the north-east of England are receiving training on website accessibility.

As part of an initiative by MLA North East, partnered with regional development agency One NorthEast, libraries, museums, archives and other cultural establishments are receiving the chance to work with experts and learn how to improve the inclusiveness of their online provision.

Some £285,000 has been provided for the initiative, which offers IT expertise in a variety of fields, reports local publication The Journal.

Neil Bowerbank, head of e-strategy at MLA North East, said: "Digitisation is a huge growth area within the sector as it enables our huge collections to be more accessible through websites, e-learning or dynamic new exhibitions."

Nationally, the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council is currently seeking nominees for its Jodi awards, which recognise excellence in the field of web accessibility.
