A US-based agency is to offer online advertisements designed specifically for blind and visually impaired web users.
Peer Group Consulting (PGC), in partnership with Deaf Link, a sign language interpretation service, will create portals for city websites which require information to be available for a wider range of citizens.
All of the site upgrades will be designed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which has similar requirements to the Disability Discrimination Act enforced in the UK.
Sha Embree, President of PGC, comments: "By making all of a city's or business' information available to all individuals, one is not only fulfilling social responsibilities, but also increasing their market share by up to ten per cent."
The official added that accessibility upgrades of this nature are a "win-win opportunity for residents and consumers alike".
Accessible design is one of the major components of the ADA, encompassing both physical and online services, with web design standards which must be adhered to for full compliance.
