Primary school pupils are to use technology to aid their local community, thanks to a new initiative.

As part of the Made IT Happen scheme - organised by the Parliamentary Information Technology Committee (Pitcom) and e-skills UK, the nine to 11-year-olds can win up to £1,000 for their school.

Participants are able to enter web pages and other electronic formats into the competition, along with outlines of the problem faced and solution.

Karen Price, Chief Executive of e-skills UK, asserts that technology has the power to help young mind achieve "amazing" feats.

"It harnesses their natural energy and enthusiasm, providing them with an opportunity to stretch their imagination and learn how technology can make a positive contribution to their world," she explains.

Tim Boswell, Conservative MP for Daventry and member of the Pitcom council, added that technology has become a vital part of the machinations of every day life.
