The level of accessibility offered by local authority websites still needs to be improved, a new study has claimed.

Conducted by the Society of IT Management (Socitm), the Better Connected survey found that only two sites comply with the level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, reports PublicTechnology.net.

Information provided by Socitm reviewers was used in conjunction with data from various disability groups, including the Royal National Institute of the Blind.

Report author Martin Greenwood said that the "customer journey" is paramount to a site's success, according to IT Pro.

"This can only be achieved if one has a mechanism for seeing that journey from a customer perspective. There is no substitute for some form of user testing," he said.

Socitm recently unveiled plans for a new e-learning initiative which is set to be rolled out for public sector workers and management, focussing on mobile working and application development.
