The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is to examine the ways in which ubiquitous web applications can be improved to enhance usability.

A workshop will be held in Dublin on June 5th and 6th 2007, with the main goal of studying declarative techniques and their potential use with applications - which could provide better access to devices.

Ultimately, this could impact upon usability regarding secure connections to devices with small screens or no visual output, the body notes.

"Security and usability are key themes for realising the potential for new kinds of web applications, particularly those involving richer access to device capabilities and to personal or confidential information," it states.

Additionally, the W3C will consider the future role of semantic web technologies in privacy and security relationships online.

On February 27th and 28th, the organisation held a workshop to discuss the possibility that the web may not be able to fulfil all business needs, aiming to examine ways of improving this through future initiatives.
