Charities could garner more support by using the Internet, according to the sector regulator.
The Charity Commission is to host a conference examining ways in which breakthrough media such as social networking sites, blogs, broadband TV and user-generated content could be employed by organisations.
Taking place today at 16:30 GMT on Monday March 19th at City University, London, the event will feature speakers from Shelter and Oxfam, among others.
Minister for the Third Sector Ed Miliband has said that Britons now expect a greater level of involvement with the government and public bodies.
Dame Suzi Leather, Chair of the Charity Commission, remarked: "We are entering an age of participative media where anybody with access to a computer has the potential to contribute in a unique and valuable way."
The Charity Commission's stated role is to ensure that all affiliated and registered members operate wholly for the benefit of the public and not to aid commercial or government entities.
