The provision of e-government services must take into account the individual needs of those it is trying to reach, an expert has warned.
A "one size fits all approach will never work", claimed Professor Zahir Irani, Head of Brunel Business School and Principal Investigator for the Virtual Institute for Electronic Government Research (VIEGO) project.
Writing for Policy Dialogue International, the expert noted that a technological solution which is a success in one area may be doomed to failure in another - if specific human and organisational factors are not adequately taken into consideration.
However, he also asserted that working together and sharing knowledge could form the foundation of successful e-government service delivery.
"Organisations sharing the same pain could develop solutions together or at the very least try to avoid the same challenges next time around," remarked Professor Irani.
The VIEGO project aims to identify areas for e-government improvement and research, with a goal of identifying themes for the future.
