The Internet and other modern technologies have improved the lives of users, a new BT Total Broadband study claims.
Conducted with more than 1,000 UK parents, the BT Digital Living Report 2007 indicates that 45 per cent of respondents go online to communicate with an estranged family member, while 47 per cent claim that this makes contact more frequent.
Additionally, those surveyed state that gathering information (76 per cent), general tasks including banking (65 per cent) and communication (40 per cent) are now easier thanks to the new technology.
Emma Sanderson, Director of Value Added Services at BT Retail, comments: "This [broadband internet] expands their horizons immeasurably, allowing them to meet people and access resources across the globe."
Data from the Office of National Statistics indicates that broadband accounted for just under 80 per cent of the UK's total connections in December 2006, a year-on-year increase of 29.7 per cent.
