E-government needs a more cohesive approach to ensure services are as efficient as possible, it has been claimed.
Experts at Brunel University and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance, announcing the findings of a consultation forum on e-government, say that more integration is required between services such as online bill payments and library services to improve the user experience.
The findings from the forums for the Virtual Research Institute into E-Government warned that unless online service provisions are made more consistent, citizens will turn away from using web-based offerings from the government.
"E-government is not a collection of isolated projects, but an ongoing activity like human resource and treasury management. Building and maintaining a body of knowledge within and across agencies is vital," commented Professor Zahir Irani, principal investigator and head of Brunel Business School.
Last week, the Society of IT Management called for more relevant IT applications to be developed for councillors and local politicians.
