A new website from West Lancashire District Council will enable tenants to switch properties more easily, its creators claim.
The Mutual Exchange Scheme, which has been designed to allow tenants to carry out the move from the comfort of their own home, rather than travelling to offices, features a regularly updated list of properties on the site.
This has the potential to help a large number of tenants, such as those wishing to find a new area, move to a property of a different size, or finding somewhere more suitable to their needs, according to the council.
Councillor Adrian Owens, Portfolio Holder for IT, commented: "The web is definitely the way forward for accessing council services - which is why we are putting more and more services online."
He added that residents can now pay bills, apply for jobs and report a wide range of problems via the council website.
The website also advises tenants of any potential stumbling blocks in their application, such as rent arrears or outstanding repairs.
