A coalition of disability organisations aiming to promote Internet and technological accessibility for disabled people has been formed in the US.
The Coalition of Organizations for Accessible Technology (COAT) has 45 members from across the country committed to ensuring that new technological innovations provide sufficient services for users with disabilities.
Its objectives include calling for an extension of current laws dictating accountability for accessible IP technology and promoting the manufacture of playback devices, such as video recorders, with buttons and displays that can be easily used by disabled people.
Members of the coalition include the American Association of People with Disabilities, Deaf Seniors of America, the National Association of the Deaf and the World Institute on Disability.
Earlier this month, Peter Abrahams of Bloor Research warned firms to ensure that their websites comply with mandatory accessibility standards or risk falling foul of the law, reports IT-Director.com.
