Greater levels of accessibility will enable a wider range of students at California State University (CSU) Long Beach to access important information, officials have claimed.

The university states that conventional materials, administrative information and educational provision will soon be available to all students through the Accessible Technology Initiative currently underway.

All access to the Internet and web applications will be made accessible through the project in order to comply fully with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Additionally, the initiative includes plans to make all instructional materials and peripherals attached to the system accessible and compliant with standards.

CSU Executive Vice Chancellor Gary Reichard said: "Achieving accessibility will require collaboration among faculty, disability resource centres, bookstores, academic and student services departments, academic technology and other institutional staff and students with disabilities."

CSU Long Beach also provides specialist support on campus for sufferers of a variety of physical impairments, including visually impaired and disabled students.
