Website accessibility should be the single biggest concern among organisations, one expert has stated.

Writing for the Small Business Informer's WebKnowhow, Sharon Housley said: "Accessibility is the most critical measure of your website's performance."

"If customers can't access your site, they can't shop; and if they can't shop, they can't buy."

In addition to potential loss of e-commerce revenue, failing to provide an accessible site could have a wider and more damaging impact upon a business, she also claimed.

Ms Housley asserted that the concern could result in negative word of mouth generated among users - harming the reputation of the company and potentially resulting in negative press.

Earlier this month research by financial services expert moneysupermarket.com found that the growing number of UK adults who idly search the web could be good news for e-commerce vendors.

Shopping and travel portals benefit from the quarter of Britons who spend 30 per cent of their time engaged in this practice, the company claimed.
