The number of Britons who are happy to get their information and services from the Internet is rising, the British Bankers' Association (BBA) has claimed.

The comments were made by Angela Knight CBE, Chief Executive of the organisation, when discussing figures revealing that more than 250,000 visitors logged on to the BBA website in March.

Year-on-year, this represents an increase of 83 per cent from 2005.

"More and more people are choosing to get their information from the web," said Ms Knight.

"With Internet access on the increase banks have to keep pace with customer demand."

She added that the banking industry is observing similar success, with Internet banking becoming increasingly popular with customers.

Figures from Apacs, the UK payments association, show that 16.9 million British adults now use an online banking service - a number which has almost doubled since 2002.
