Malta's St John's Co-Cathedral has launched accessible new website.

The church is one of the most important religious sites in Malta and one of its most visited tourist hotspots, and officials are hoping to bring information to a wider proportion of society with the new portal, the Malta Independent reports.

Developers have designed the site to comply with the World Wide Web Consortium's standards, although this is not required by local legislation.

The online offering provides times and details of the major religious events taking place, along with practical guidance to tourists.

Additionally, web users can find information and examples relating to the artwork, tapestries and paintings in the tombs and chapels.

Cynthia De Giorgio, St John's Co-Cathedral Curator, commented: "Our website has been produced in order to give as much information about St John's as possible and to present it in a way that makes it available to as many visitors as possible."
