The National Museum of Science and Industry (NMSI) is hoping to bring its exhibits to a wider range of individuals with an accessible new website.

Aiming to comply with the World Wide Web Consortium standards, the site will be integrated with the Science Museum of Swindon, National Railway Museum and National Media Museum sites.

This should ensure that all of the sites comply with accessibility guidelines, according to the body.

Some 6.5 million web users access the museum's portals, which feature over 2,500 collection items.

Mel Burns, Chief Information Officer of NMSI, comments: "With the launch of our new information group and the CMS [content management system] we hope to make more of our fabulous assets and information available to more people, quicker and better."

In addition to improving the accessibility of the site, information is available online about physical access facilities such as large print maps and boards, wheelchair ramps and lifts that feature audible floor indicators.
